Did State Sen. Deb Plowman (R-Hampden) Suggest Treason During Last Night’s ME GOP U.S. Senate Candidate Debate?

Watch for yourself.

“I do believe in the Second Amendment… in fact, if it wasn’t for the (GOP) convention this weekend, I would be at the Front Sight Shooting Institute, just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, in a two day shooting course. My husband is very disappointed that I am not going with him. The Second Amendment is not about duck hunting- it’s about just what it says- we should have a standing militia to protect ourselves from our own government. Because our forefathers knew that people engrossed power to themselves, that government engrosses power to itself, and that the citizens that should remain in charge will always be in a fragile state if they cannot control their government.”

From Section Three, Article Three of Plowman’s “beloved” Constitution:

“Section 3 defines treason and its punishment.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

The Constitution defines treason as specific acts, namely “levying War against [the United States], or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.” In Ex Parte Bollman, 8 U.S. 75 (1807), the Supreme Court ruled that “there must be an actual assembling of men, for the treasonable purpose, to constitute a levying of war.”[11]

Strangely enough, neither Bruce Poliquin nor Scott D’Amboise, fervent Constitution wavers at past events, chose to oppose Plowman’s statements. One wonders why, especially as Poliquin has the Constitutional Conservatives Fund’s Mike Lee rattling the coffee cans for him.

Yet another question that our beleaguered treasurer will scamper quickly away from?
